PGT Windows & Doors: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We replace and install PGT windows and doors in Fresno, with most single-unit replacements running between $800 and $2,500 installed depending on frame material, glass package, and hardware. The call usually comes after a latch stops catching, a roller grinds, a seal fogs over, or a slider suddenly needs two hands and a shove. Those failures tend to follow a pattern in the Central Valley – and the fix is rarely as simple as ordering whatever part looks close on a website.
PGT builds to impact and coastal standards, which means the product you have is quieter and heavier than a typical builder window. It also means the replacement parts are not interchangeable with the generic hardware at a big-box store. A vinyl slider from a 2010 home and a WinGuard from a 2018 addition can look identical from ten feet away and take entirely different rollers.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

Most Fresno homes we see have one of three PGT lines: WinGuard (impact-rated, the one with the laminated glass and the aluminum or vinyl frame), Spectrum (vinyl, mid-range, common in whole-home retrofits), or Series 700/770 (aluminum, older builds and some commercial storefronts). Before anything gets ordered, we pull the manufacturer label off the frame or sash. It is usually a small sticker in the track or along the edge of the window, and it lists the series, the size, and sometimes the date code.
Here is the compatibility gotcha we see constantly: PGT changed roller and latch specifications between model years, even within the same series. A WinGuard slider from 2015 and one from 2021 may look like twins, but the roller housing can be a different width by an eighth of an inch. We measure the part that came out, not just the frame it sat in. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for seals, weatherstripping, and balance springs, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a supplier who knows PGT specs works fine and often ships faster. For rollers, latches, and multi-point lock assemblies, we strongly prefer OEM. Those are the pieces that keep an impact-rated window doing its actual job, and they are worth waiting a few extra days for.

Signs Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The sash is suddenly hard to slide, or it drops when you let go. That is almost always the rollers. PGT rollers wear flat on one side from the weight of the impact glass, and Fresno dust accelerates the wear in the track and the housing.
- The latch does not fully engage, or you have to lift the sash to make it catch. The keeper and latch have drifted out of alignment, usually because a roller failed first and changed how the sash sits in the frame.
- Condensation you cannot wipe off, between the glass panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. On a PGT window that is a glass replacement, not a repairable part. It also means the argon or krypton fill is gone and the window is no longer performing at its rated efficiency.
- You hear an air whistle or feel a draft along the frame edge. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn. In Fresno summers, that is cooled air leaving the house; in winter, it is Tule fog finding its way in.
- The window will not stay up when opened more than a few inches. The balance spring has broken or lost tension. This is one of the few PGT parts we firmly recommend against a homeowner replacing themselves – more on that below.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Most PGT part replacements in Fresno land between $800 and $2,500 installed, with the spread driven by what actually failed and whether we are looking at one window or a whole elevation. A roller and latch set on a single slider is at the low end. A full insulated glass replacement on a large WinGuard picture window, including the lift and the re-glaze, is the high end. If you are also facing a full window replacement, the range in Fresno is $4,500 to $15,000, and we will tell you honestly whether a part swap or a full unit makes more sense for the remaining life of the window.
You get the written price before any work starts, every time. It includes the part, the labor, the trip, and the small hardware – shims, screws, sealant – so the number you approve is the number you pay. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right. No change orders, no surprises after the sash is back in the frame.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things we will happily tell you to try yourself. Cleaning the track with a dry brush and checking for loose screws in the handle is safe and takes five minutes. If the latch just needs a quarter-turn adjustment on one screw, you can do that with a Phillips head and some patience. But do not open up a balance-spring assembly. PGT balance springs on impact sash hold serious tension, and one that releases the wrong way is a broken finger or a cracked tile, not a learning experience. Same goes for lifting out a laminated glass sash without a second set of hands – that glass weighs more than people expect, and it does not bounce.
If you are in doubt, call (559) 540-8453. We will ask you to take a photo of the label and the part before we come out, so the first trip is the right trip.
FAQs

In the Central Valley, a PGT window that is installed correctly and gets its rollers and seals replaced when needed can last 20 to 30 years before the frame itself gives up. The glass and the frame are built for coastal abuse; what wears out is the small stuff. We see the average Fresno home needing its first hardware replacement at around the 10 to 15 year mark, depending on sun exposure and how much dust the surrounding landscaping kicks into the tracks.
Latches and alignment issues are often repairable. Rollers, balance springs, and weatherstripping are replacement items once they have actually failed – there is nothing to rebuild on a roller that has worn flat. Fogged glass cannot be repaired at all. The seal has to be cut and the unit rebuilt, which is why we treat it as a glass replacement. Call (559) 540-8453 and we will give you a straight answer on which path makes sense for your window.
A single roller and latch replacement on a slider is usually done in about an hour, including removing the sash, swapping the hardware, and testing the alignment. A full insulated glass replacement is a half-day, mostly because the glazing needs time to set before we reseat the unit. If we are replacing multiple windows worth of hardware, we schedule the day around it and tell you upfront what time we will arrive and what time we will be gone.
We keep common PGT roller sizes, latches, weatherstripping, and balance springs in the Fresno inventory rotation, because they cover the majority of Spectrum and WinGuard repairs. Custom-size glass and some WinGuard-specific locks are ordered directly from PGT’s distribution and take a few extra days. We will tell you which category your part falls into before we schedule the first visit, so you are not waiting around wondering.
If a PGT window or door is acting up, the fastest way to get the right part matched to the right model is a phone call. We answer live, 24/7 – no voicemail box, no automated menu. We will walk you through the label, talk through what you are seeing, and get a written price to you before anything comes off the truck. Call (559) 540-8453 to schedule a free estimate. Graham Stein keeps a small notebook in his shirt pocket, and anything you mention about your windows goes in it – so nothing gets lost between the first call and the finished job.
