PGT Roofing: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you own a home in Fresno with a PGT roof system and a component has failed, you’re likely looking at an installed repair cost between $400 and $1,800, depending on what gave out and how much flashing, underlayment, or decking needs to come with it. We stock PGT-compatible replacement parts locally and can usually have a technician out to assess the failure within one or two business days, not three or four. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a water stain on the ceiling after a heavy Central Valley rain, a shingle or tile in the yard after a windstorm, or a granule trail in the gutter that wasn’t there last season.
PGT built its name on impact-rated windows and doors, but its roofing line follows the same logic: engineered openings, tested fastening patterns, and materials rated for high-wind and hail regions. What that means for you is simple. A PGT roof is not a generic roof, and a generic patch often violates the very rating you paid for. The fix needs to match the system. That’s where we come in.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s roofing products fall into a few families, and the part you need depends almost entirely on which family your roof belongs to. The most common in Fresno are the PGT StormGuard asphalt shingle line, the PGT WindVue architectural series, and a smaller number of homes with PGT metal panel systems. Each uses different attachment hardware, different underlayment specs, and different flashing details. If you pull a shingle from one and try to match it to another, you’ll get a roof that looks close and performs poorly.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t see coming. PGT shingle warranties are tied to the fastening pattern, not just the shingle itself. A StormGuard shingle nailed outside its specified nailing zone will lift in the kind of wind we get off the Sierra foothills, warranty voided, water following behind it. So when we match a PGT part, we match the install spec, not just the color and profile.
Identifying your PGT model takes about two minutes. Look at the underside of a loose shingle for a printed code, or check the paperwork from your original install if you have it. No paperwork? Take a clear photo of the shingle edge and texture and we can identify it from the truck when we arrive. For metal systems, measure the rib spacing with a tape measure before you call; that single number tells us which panel series you have and whether we can source OEM or need to fabricate a compatible match.
Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is an independent service provider and not affiliated with PGT. That independence matters to you in one specific way: we’ll tell you honestly whether an aftermarket equivalent will perform as well as an OEM part, and we’ll put that recommendation in writing with the price.

Signs Your PGT Roofing Is Failing
- Granule loss collecting in gutters or at downspout elbows. Asphalt shingles shed granules as the UV-stabilized surface breaks down, and in Fresno’s 100-degree summers that breakdown accelerates. A thick layer of granules at the downspout base means the shingle’s protective layer is thinning and the fiberglass mat will soon be exposed.
- Curling or cupping shingle edges visible from the ground. This is a moisture and heat problem: the shingle’s underside absorbed humidity during our wet winters, then baked under triple-digit sun. Once the edges curl, wind gets under them and the tear-off starts one shingle at a time.
- Water staining on ceilings or walls after a storm. By the time you see the stain, water has already moved through the shingle, the underlayment, and likely the decking. The leak’s entry point is often several feet away from the stain itself, which is why a proper PGT repair means tracing the water path, not just patching the visible spot.
- Loose or missing shingles after wind events. Fresno gets its share of gusty spring days. If shingles are coming off, the fastening pattern was likely wrong from the start, or the shingles have aged past their nail-holding ability. Either way, more will follow.
- Sagging areas or visible decking from the attic side. This is the one that can’t wait. A sag means the roof deck has been wet long enough to lose structural strength. That’s not a shingle swap; that’s a deck repair plus shingle replacement, and it costs more the longer it sits.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, PGT roofing repairs run from $400 on the low end for a small shingle patch or flashing correction, up to $1,800 for a larger section that requires underlayment replacement, decking repair, and re-flashing around penetrations. Tile and metal roof repairs sit in the $600 to $2,500 range because the materials cost more and the labor takes longer to do without damaging adjacent panels or tiles.
| Repair Type | Typical Installed Range in Fresno |
|---|---|
| Roof Repair (shingle patch, minor flashing) | $400 – $1,800 |
| Tile Roof Repair | $600 – $2,500 |
| Roof Replacement (full tear-off & re-roof) | $8,000 – $20,000 |
| Metal Roof Installation | $15,000 – $40,000 |
What’s included in our pricing: the PGT-compatible part itself, all labor, any matching underlayment or flashing needed to make the repair hold, and our written line-item quote before a single tool comes off the truck. No change orders after the crew arrives if we find something we expected to find. If we find something we didn’t, we stop and talk to you first. That’s the rule.
Every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not holding up the way it should within a year, we make it right at no additional cost. Graham Stein, our owner, signs every scope of work himself.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things an owner can safely do. Clearing debris from valleys and gutters? Yes, with a stable ladder. Photographing shingle condition from the ground? Absolutely. Taking a tape measure to a loose metal panel’s rib spacing so we know what to bring? Please do; it saves you a trip charge.
What we don’t recommend is walking a roof you don’t know. Fresno roofs bake all summer, and shingles that look solid from the ground can be brittle and slippery underfoot. If the failure involves the roof decking, the flashing, or anything structural, a wrong guess turns a $500 repair into a $5,000 problem. If the part is under tension, like certain spring-loaded vent dampers, or if the repair requires breaking the roof’s weather seal to access it, leave it to someone who does this every week.

FAQs

PGT asphalt shingle systems typically last 20 to 30 years in Fresno’s climate, though the intense Central Valley sun can shorten that to 15 to 20 years on south-facing slopes that take direct afternoon heat. Tile and metal systems last longer, often 40 to 50 years for tile and 40-plus for metal. If you’re seeing failures on a PGT roof younger than 15 years, the fastening pattern or ventilation is usually the culprit, not the material. Call (559) 540-8453 and we’ll inspect what’s failing and why.
Most PGT roof failures in Fresno are repairable: a shingle patch, a flashing correction, a section re-seal. Replacement only makes sense when the decking is compromised, the shingles have aged past their useful life, or the failure area covers more than a third of the roof plane. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at and put the proof in writing before you spend anything.
Most single-part repairs take half a day on site, including the written scope, the work itself, and the photo of the clean-up before we leave. Larger repairs that involve decking replacement or re-flashing around chimneys and skylights can take one to two days. We schedule around your family’s rhythm, not the other way around.
We stock the most common PGT-compatible shingle profiles, flashing, and underlayment on our trucks, and we keep a broader selection in our Fresno shop. If we need to order an unusual part, we’ll tell you exactly how long it takes and what it costs before any deposit changes hands. No surprises.
If your PGT roof is showing any of the signs above, or if you simply want an honest assessment before the next storm season, call (559) 540-8453 for a free estimate. A live person answers, every time.
