IKO Roofing: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you have an IKO roof in Fresno and a section is failing, the repair or replacement typically runs between $400 and $1,800 for a targeted fix, and $8,000 to $20,000 for a full roof replacement. We stock common IKO-compatible shingles, underlayment, and flashing on our trucks, and we’ll match your existing IKO color line so the repair does not announce itself from the street. Most Fresno homeowners discover a problem one of two ways: a stain on the ceiling after a hard rain, or a shingle in the yard after a wind event off the foothills.
What usually brings the phone call, though, is the slow stuff. Curling at the edges. Granules collecting in the gutter. A soft spot near a vent pipe. That is the roof telling you it has been working hard in California sun, and a specific part of the system needs attention before the next rain finds it.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO makes several shingle lines that show up on Fresno houses, and the part you need depends on which line is up there. The big three we see are Cambridge (their architectural laminate, two thickness profiles depending on the year), Dynasty (a heavier architectural shingle with a wider exposure), and Marathon (a thicker three-tab found on older Fresno homes). Each line has its own dimensional spec, which matters more than you might think. A Cambridge shingle is not a drop-in for a Dynasty course, even if the color looks close from the driveway.
Here is the compatibility gotcha: IKO has shifted shingle exposure widths and tab geometry between production years, and the color lot codes matter. A “Harvard Slate” Cambridge from 2018 and one from 2023 will be close, but not identical. We ask for a photo of the shingle edge and, if you saved them, the original packaging labels. If not, we measure the exposure and match the coursing. For flashing, pipe boots, and ridge caps, we use IKO OEM parts when the roof is under warranty, and quality aftermarket equivalents when it is not, always rated for the same wind uplift and UV exposure. Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is an independent contractor; we are not affiliated with IKO, which means we can also be honest when an aftermarket part will do the job equally well for less money.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter or at the downspout outlet. IKO shingles shed some granules in their first season, but steady accumulation after year eight usually means the asphalt matrix is breaking down under Fresno UV. The granule layer is the shingle’s sunscreen; once it thins, the asphalt oxidizes fast.
- Curling or cupping at shingle corners. This is almost always a ventilation or age issue. Attic heat in a Fresno summer pushes 140 degrees, and without ridge and soffit airflow, shingles bake from both sides and curl. If it is isolated to one slope, that tells us where the heat is trapping.
- A water stain on the ceiling after rain. The shingle is rarely the first failure point here. More often it is a dried-out pipe boot, a failed nail seal at a flashing transition, or step flashing that has pulled away from a wall. The shingle above it just let the water through.
- Shingles in the yard after wind. IKO rates its shingles for wind uplift, but nails that were overdriven or placed in the wrong zone (outside the manufacturer’s nail line) release under gust load. Fresno’s downslope winds off the Sierra foothills find every weak nail pattern.
- A soft or spongy feel underfoot in one spot. This is decking rot, not shingle failure, and it is the one that turns a $400 repair into a $1,200 repair. The shingle above was compromised for months or years before anyone noticed, and the OSB below absorbed every rain cycle since.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a targeted IKO repair in Fresno, expect $400 to $1,800 installed. That covers the failed shingles, any damaged underlayment beneath them, the flashing or sealant at the transition point, and haul-away of the old material. A repair that climbs toward the top of that range usually involves decking replacement, a rotted fascia board, or a complicated valley detail.
A full IKO roof replacement in Fresno runs $8,000 to $20,000. What moves the number: roof pitch (a 7/12 slows the crew down more than a 4/12), number of stories, decking condition, and whether we are doing a tear-off or a recover. The line-item breakdown includes old roof removal, dump fees, new underlayment (we use a synthetic, not felt, on IKO roofs because it handles the Fresno heat better), ice and water shield at eaves and valleys, new IKO shingles, ridge cap, pipe boots, and flashing. You get the written price before any work starts, and the price we write is the price you pay. No change orders unless we open the roof and find decking that the original quote could not have seen. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every repair and replacement. If something is not done right, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an owner can safely do before calling us. First, from the ground with binoculars, look for missing shingles, lifted corners, or dark patches where granules are gone. Second, clean the gutters and note how much granule material is in them. That is useful information for whoever ends up on the roof.
What we would not do yourself is walk the roof. A Fresno comp roof in August is hot enough to cook an egg, and a sun-softened shingle gives way underfoot fast. Beyond the fall risk, walking a compromised IKO roof can push a small leak area into a big one. Same goes for any repair that involves a ladder at height, a valley, or a flashing detail. If you want someone to look before you commit to a repair, call us at (559) 540-8453. We will get on the roof, take photos, and tell you what we found. The estimate is free.
FAQs

An IKO architectural shingle (Cambridge or Dynasty) with proper attic ventilation typically lasts 25 to 30 years in the Fresno climate, but the California sun is harder on shingles than almost any other weather factor, so granule loss and UV oxidation often show up earlier here than in coastal or shaded markets. A well-ventilated roof buys you years. A hot, unventilated attic is where shingle life goes to die.
If the failing area is isolated to one slope or around a single penetration (a vent, a skylight, a chimney), a repair usually makes sense, and we can match the IKO color line closely enough that only you will know. If the granule loss, curling, or leaks are spread across multiple slopes, or the roof is past 20 years old and failing in broad patches, replacement is the honest recommendation. We will show you photos either way and let you decide. Call (559) 540-8453 for an honest assessment.
A targeted repair on a single slope or penetration typically takes half a day to a full day, including clean-up. A full tear-off and replacement on a standard Fresno single-story home usually runs 2 to 4 working days, depending on roof size, pitch, and weather. We schedule around your family’s routine where we can, quiet tools during nap and school hours, and the crew leaves with a photo of the clean-up before they leave, every time.
We keep common IKO color lines and accessory parts stock-ready for Fresno repairs: architectural shingles in the most common Cambridge and Dynasty colors, ridge cap in matching lines, synthetic underlayment, pipe boots, and step flashing. Less common IKO color lots or warranty-critical OEM parts may need a supply run, which we fold into the schedule so you are not waiting on a roof that is open to the weather. We also carry parts and materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on their respective project types, so a multi-trade scope does not slow down.
