GAF Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install GAF-compatible driveway and paver components across Fresno, with typical installed paver driveway work running $7,000 – $18,000 and concrete driveway jobs landing between $4,500 – $12,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and access. Most Fresno homeowners discover a failed paver or driveway section the same way: a low spot forms after winter rain, a paver shifts under a car tire, or a hairline crack widens across the slab after a hot summer. The part that usually fails first isn’t the visible surface. It’s what sits underneath.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor serving Fresno and nearby areas. We’re not affiliated with GAF, but we work with GAF-compatible driveway and paver materials every season and we know what holds up in this valley’s heat and clay soil. If you’re staring at a cracked paver or a driveway edge that’s crumbling into the lawn, this page will tell you what you’re actually dealing with, what it should cost, and whether you need a crew at all.
Which GAF Models This Applies To

GAF’s hardscape and paver lines show up in Fresno under a few different product families, and the compatibility question starts with identifying which one you own. Most GAF driveway pavers in this market fall into two buckets: interlocking concrete pavers sized at 4″×8″ or 8″×8″ with a 60mm thickness for vehicle traffic, and larger-format slab pavers at 16″×16″ or 24″×24″ that need a thicker base because Fresno’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture. A 60mm paver on a 4″ compacted base handles passenger vehicles fine. A 40mm paver does not, and we see that mistake in older Fresno installs where the original contractor saved money on material.
The fastest way to identify your paver is to flip one over. GAF pavers carry a stamped code on the underside, usually a three-digit batch number plus a size marking. If the stamp is gone or too worn to read, measure the paver’s thickness. That single measurement tells us more than the color pattern ever will. Aftermarket equivalents from reputable manufacturers match GAF’s dimensions and compressive strength, but the color blend rarely matches exactly, so patching a small section with a different brand leaves a visible seam. For full driveway replacements, quality aftermarket pavers are a reasonable money-saving option. For spot repairs, we source GAF-specific product whenever it’s still in distribution.

Signs Your GAF Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots that hold water after rain. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. Fresno’s clay soil swells when wet, and if the original gravel base wasn’t compacted in lifts, the whole section settles unevenly. A paver that’s tilted at one corner means the sand bedding has eroded underneath.
- Crumbling edges along the driveway border. Edge restraints fail before anything else. Without a solid concrete or plastic restraint along the perimeter, pavers drift outward under repeated tire pressure and the outside row cracks first.
- Paver shifting or rocking underfoot. A single rocking paver usually means joint sand has washed out. But a section that moves as a unit points to a saturated base that’s lost its load-bearing capacity. That’s the one that gets worse every winter rain.
- Hairline cracks spreading across concrete. In Fresno’s summer heat, concrete expands, and without proper control joints the slab cracks to relieve that pressure. Shallow surface cracks are cosmetic. Cracks wider than a quarter inch with vertical displacement mean the subgrade is compromised.
- White powdery residue on paver surfaces. Efflorescence isn’t structural, but it tells you water is moving through the paver and pulling minerals to the surface. Fresno’s hard tap water makes this common, and it’s a sign your paver sealer has failed, not that the pavers need replacing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Fresno homeowners, a full paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000. Concrete driveway installation falls between $4,500 – $12,000, and a full driveway replacement lands at $5,000 – $14,000 depending on whether we’re removing and hauling the old surface or working over existing base material. Paver patios are a separate scope at $3,500 – $11,000. What pushes a job toward the high end of any range is access (tight side yards, narrow streets), the depth of excavation needed to reach stable soil, and whether the old driveway has to be saw-cut and hauled away.
Every driveway and paver estimate we write includes the same line items: excavation and base prep, gravel and sand bedding, the pavers or concrete themselves, edge restraints, joint sand and compaction, and full site clean-up. We give you a written price before any work starts. That price doesn’t change once the crew arrives unless we uncover something genuinely hidden, and if that happens we stop, walk you through it, and get your approval before moving. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every driveway and paver project: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few things without calling anyone. Walk your driveway after the next rain and mark every low spot with chalk. Lift one loose paver and check if the sand underneath is damp or dry. Take photos of any cracks with a quarter next to them for scale. Those steps cost nothing and they’ll tell you whether you’re looking at a cosmetic issue or a base problem.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt to re-level settled pavers on your own. If the base has failed, resetting pavers on top of it is temporary at best, and at worst you’re hiding a drainage problem that’s quietly eroding the subgrade under your driveway. Concrete crack repair products work for hairline surface cracks, but structural cracks need a professional eye to determine whether the slab is still sound. If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, call (559) 540-8453 and describe what you see. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a repair, a partial replacement, or a full redo, and you won’t get a sales pitch. Just a straight answer.
FAQs

A properly installed GAF paver driveway in Fresno lasts 25 – 30 years, with the base system doing most of the longevity work. Fresno’s freeze-thaw cycles are minimal compared to mountain climates, but summer UV exposure and clay soil movement are the two factors that age a paver driveway here faster than average. If you’re seeing failure before year ten, the base was shortchanged during the original install. Call (559) 540-8453 and we’ll tell you what a proper base looks like versus what’s under yours.
In most cases, individual cracked pavers can be removed and replaced without touching the surrounding section. The match won’t be perfect if your existing pavers have years of sun fading, but we source GAF-specific product where it’s still available to keep the color and size consistent. If three or more pavers in one area are cracked, that’s a failure pattern, not a coincidence, and repairing only the visible damage ignores what’s happening underneath. Call (559) 540-8453 for an honest assessment. Estimates are free.
A standard paver driveway replacement takes 4 – 7 working days from first excavation to final compaction, with the size of the driveway and the amount of old material needing removal being the two biggest factors. Weather delays are rare in Fresno’s dry season, but we schedule around them anyway because compaction on damp base material is what causes the settling problems you’re trying to fix. We’ll give you a written timeline before any work starts, and Graham updates the project calendar when anything changes so you’re never waiting on a mystery.
We keep common GAF-compatible paver sizes, edge restraints, and joint sand on hand for repairs, and we source full driveway quantities directly from our Fresno area suppliers within 3 – 5 business days. If we’re matching existing pavers on a repair, we order the specific GAF product line you own so the dimensions and color blend stay consistent. For replacements, you can also choose from our other named-brand material lines including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when the project extends beyond the driveway into outdoor living space.
