CGI Windows & Doors: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you own a CGI window or door and a part has failed, here’s what you need to know: we source and install CGI-compatible hardware, weatherstripping, rollers, balances, and replacement glazing for Fresno homes, with most hardware swaps running $180 to $650 installed depending on the part and your specific CGI series. Same-visit service is often possible when we have the part on the truck, and our techs can identify your exact model from the label on the frame. Most Fresno owners discover a failed part the way you probably did: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, a door that drags or won’t latch, or a seal that has gone brittle in the San Joaquin Valley heat and started letting dust through.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI, now part of PGT Innovations, builds impact-rated windows and doors that show up frequently in Fresno homes, particularly in the newer subdivisions north of Herndon and custom builds around Woodward Park. The series lines you’ll most often encounter here are Targa, Estate Collection, Sentinela, and Casement/awning units under the Commercial line. The fastest way to identify your model is the sticker on the frame or sash, usually top edge or hinge-side, which carries the CGI product code and glass specs. If that label has faded, measure the visible glass width and the frame depth; CGI frames typically run from 4-9/16 inches deep on residential lines, and that measurement narrows the part search dramatically. One compatibility gotcha: hardware from CGI’s older Miami-Dade impact line does not always interchange with the newer PGT-era CGI product, even when the windows look identical side by side. We match by serial, not by eye.

Signs Your CGI Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The sash won’t stay up on a single-hung or double-hung window. In CGI impact units, the block and tackle balances wear out and lose tension. In Fresno, the dry heat accelerates the hardening of the internal springs, and a window that was fine last fall will suddenly drop in June. The fix is a balance replacement matched to sash weight.
- Sliding glass door drags or jumps off the track. CGI sliders ride on stainless steel rollers, but the bearing grease breaks down under heat and dust. Rollers get flat-spotted after eight to ten years of Fresno summers, and you’ll feel a “thump” each time the door rolls over the dead spot.
- Draft or visible daylight around the frame edge. The foam weatherstripping CGI uses is high density, but the sun on a south-facing wall bakes it brittle. Once the seal flattens, air moves through, and with it Fresno’s fine silt dust. New compression weatherstripping restores the original tight fit.
- Interior handle flops or fails to throw the locks on a French door or multi-point lock door. The gearbox inside the handle set is plastic-bodied, and over-torquing from a door that has sagged slightly will strip the internal teeth. You’ll get a handle that spins halfway, then slips.
- Fog between the panes on an insulated glass unit. The desiccant inside the spacer eventually saturates. Once the seal on a CGI insulated unit fails, you get condensation between the glass, even in a dry season. The glass replacement is straightforward; the sash usually does not need to be repainted or reframed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, most CGI window and door part replacements land in these ranges:
- Balance replacement (per window): $180 – $340 installed
- Sliding door roller replacement (per panel): $220 – $420 installed
- Weatherstripping kit (per door or window): $150 – $300 installed
- Multi-point lock or handle gearbox: $260 – $520 installed
- Insulated glass replacement (per sash): $350 – $750 installed
The spread comes down to the CGI series, whether the part is OEM or a quality aftermarket match, and how accessible the hardware is on an installed unit. We write the price before any work starts, and it includes the part, the labor, the clean-up, and a photo of the finished repair. If a part fails again within our 365-Day Done Right Promise, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely do yourself: note the label information, photograph the failed part from a couple of angles, and test without forcing anything. Do not wrestle with a CGI impact window balance under tension. Do not remove a sliding door panel alone, and do not open a sealed multi-point lock gearbox thinking you will just reset a spring inside. The risk is a door that won’t secure at night or a glass sash that comes down on a hand. A trained tech can tell you in fifteen minutes whether your part is worth repairing or needs replacement, and we will carry the part and the liability. Call (559) 540-8453 and we will help you identify what you have before anyone touches it.
FAQs

Plan on 10 to 15 years for balances and weatherstripping, 8 to 12 for rollers, and longer for the frame itself. The San Joaquin Valley’s dry heat shortens the life of anything with internal grease or synthetic rubber, which is why we recommend checking seals and moving parts once a year, ideally before summer. Call (559) 540-8453 and we will quote the exact part for your unit.
For most CGI hardware, replacement is cheaper and more reliable than repair. Rollers, balances, and weatherstripping are wear items, and repairing a worn spring or a flat-spotted roller usually costs more in labor than a new part costs. The one exception is a loose handle set screw, which we will tighten for free if we are already on site.
Most hardware replacements run 30 to 60 minutes per window or door panel, once the correct part is confirmed. Insulated glass replacement usually takes a single visit with a short wait for the unit to be fabricated. We do not ask anyone to take a day off work for a balance swap.
We carry the most common CGI-compatible balances, rollers, weatherstripping profiles, and handle sets on our Fresno trucks, so many of these repairs are finished on the first visit. For less common series parts, we order from our supplier and quote a firm arrival date before you commit. We also carry parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products, should your window or door repair touch a nearby cabinet or sill surface.
