CGI Kitchen Remodeling: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you have CGI cabinetry or a CGI kitchen component that has failed, we can help. Elmstead Remodeling Fresno sources and installs CGI-compatible doors, drawer fronts, hinges, and hardware, and a full kitchen remodel involving CGI products in Fresno typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on scope. Most Fresno owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer that no longer closes flush, a hinge that has pulled loose from the cabinet box, or a door front that has warped after a few Central Valley summers.
You are not looking for a sales pitch. You are looking for someone who knows what fits, what it costs, and whether it is worth repairing or replacing. That is the page we have written here.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI cabinet lines span a few distinct families, and the part that failed will usually tell you which one you have. The biggest compatibility gotcha we run into in Fresno homes is hinge spacing. Some CGI lines use a 35mm cup bore for concealed hinges; a small number of older builder-grade lines used a 26mm bore, which limits your replacement hinge options. Before you order anything, pull one hinge off and measure the cup. If you see a 35mm bore, you have a wide range of quality aftermarket choices from Blum or Grass that drop in cleanly. If it is 26mm, we usually recommend matching the original CGI part rather than modifying the door.
CGI also produced both framed and frameless cabinet boxes. Frameless boxes need clip-on hinges with a specific mounting plate; framed boxes use a different plate entirely. The two are not interchangeable, and forcing the wrong plate is how doors end up crooked or binding at the corner. We keep both plate styles on the truck, along with OEM CGI replacement hinges and a curated set of aftermarket equivalents for the most common Fresno-era CGI installations.
We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone kitchens, which sometimes share hinge footprints with CGI depending on the year of manufacture.

Signs Your CGI Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer front sagging or scraping the cabinet face below it. The undermount slides have worn or the drawer box has pulled loose from the front. On CGI cabinets from the mid-2000s, we find the factory screw anchors in the drawer front are the weak point, not the slide itself.
- Hinge screws spinning without tightening. The particleboard behind the screw has stripped, often from years of a heavy door hanging on a two-hinge setup. This is not a hinge problem; it is a cabinet box repair, and it needs to be addressed before the door tears out and takes a chunk of the face frame with it.
- Door front warped or bowed at the corners. Fresno’s dry heat pulls moisture out of wood and MDF unevenly. A door that sat fine for ten years can develop a visible bow after one particularly dry July. The door is usually the problem, not the cabinet.
- Soft-close mechanism no longer catching. The damper inside the hinge or slide has failed, or the catch clip has cracked. On most CGI hinges the damper is not serviceable; the hinge gets replaced as a unit.
- Laminate or veneer peeling at the bottom edge of the door. Heat and steam from the dishwasher or the oven repeatedly hit the lower doors. Once the edge banding lifts, moisture gets behind the veneer and the peeling accelerates.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, CGI kitchen remodeling and component replacement pricing breaks down like this:
- Hardware replacement (hinges, slides, pulls): $400 to $1,800 depending on how many doors and drawers and whether you want soft-close retrofits.
- Individual door or drawer front replacement: $150 to $600 per piece, matched to your CGI finish where possible.
- Full cabinet box repair or refacing: $4,000 to $13,000, which may make more sense than replacement if the boxes are still solid.
- Full kitchen remodel with new cabinetry (CGI-compatible or comparable named brands): $14,000 to $45,000 depending on kitchen size, countertop choice, and whether we are moving plumbing or electrical.
The written price you get from us before any work starts will include the parts, the labor, the clean-up, and the drop cloths and shoe covers that protect your floors during the job. It will not change after the crew arrives unless you add scope. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed work: if it is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things an owner can safely check before calling. Pull one hinge and measure the cup bore. Look for a manufacturer label on the inside of the drawer box or the cabinet interior. Take a photo of the failed part next to a tape measure. That information saves us a trip and saves you time.
What we do not recommend is repairing stripped cabinet box screw holes with wood filler and re-driving the screw. It feels like a fix, but filler does not hold threads. The door will sag again, and the second failure is usually bigger than the first. Replacing a hinge plate is straightforward; rebuilding a stripped hinge seat in a particleboard box is not. For anything involving the cabinet structure, the safest and cheapest long-term move is to have a trained crew do it right the first time. Call our Fresno office at (559) 540-8453 and we will talk you through what you have before anyone gets in the car.
FAQs

Boxes and face frames can last 30 years or more here if they stay dry, but doors, hinges, and slides typically show real wear in 8 to 15 years, faster in kitchens with heavy daily use and high heat-and-humidity swings near the cooktop.
Some warped doors can be flattened with careful clamping and drying, and a stripped hinge seat can sometimes be re-anchored with a threaded insert, but softened or swollen particleboard around a hinge is usually not repairable in a lasting way. Call (559) 540-8453 for an honest read on which category your part falls into, and we will give you a written quote either way.
Most full hinge-and-slide replacement jobs on a standard Fresno kitchen take one day from start to finished clean-up. Door and drawer front replacements typically take one to two days depending on the number of pieces and whether finish matching is required.
We stock common CGI hinge plates and replacement hardware on the truck, and we source OEM doors, drawer fronts, and spec parts on a per-job basis from our supplier partners, usually with a one-to-two-week turnaround in the Fresno area.
