Barrette Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Barrette-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Fresno, with most replacements running $350 – $1,800 installed depending on the part and the scope of the surrounding repair. If you’re holding a cracked paver, a failed edge restraint, or a sand joint that has washed out after a Fresno rain, we can usually source the matching Barrette piece and have it set within the week. Owners typically discover the failure the hard way: a paver shifts underfoot, a section of the driveway edge starts to crumble, or the polymeric sand between joints turns to powder and weeds push through.
We know Barrette’s product lines well enough to tell you straight: not every paver is still in production, and matching a discontinued color from a 2012 pour is a different job than replacing a damaged edge restraint. That’s what this page walks through.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette Outdoor Living manufactures several paver and edging lines, and the part you need depends on which system was originally installed. If your Fresno driveway or patio uses Barrette pavers, the most common pieces we replace are the plastic edge restraints (the strips that hold the outside course in place), individual pavers that have spalled or cracked, and the sand or gravel base materials that have settled under traffic.
The gotcha owners run into: Barrette pavers come in multiple thicknesses, usually 60mm for patios and walkways and 80mm for driveway-rated traffic loads. A paver that matches in color but is only 60mm thick will not hold up under a car or truck on a Fresno driveway, and the height difference will show. We measure the existing paver, check the underside for any stamped or molded identifiers, and match both thickness and color family before we order anything. For discontinued colors, there are quality aftermarket equivalents from brands we trust, but we’ll show you the color match side by side before we set a single piece. We are an independent Fresno contractor and not affiliated with Barrette Outdoor Living, which matters because our recommendation is based on what will hold up in your specific driveway, not on moving a particular brand’s inventory.

Signs Your Barrette Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge restraint separation. The plastic or aluminum strip along the driveway edge has pulled away from the pavers, usually because the spikes backed out of the soil after heavy rain or repeated tire contact. Left alone, the outer course starts to drift and the whole edge line softens into the yard.
- Settled or sunken pavers under the wheel path. This almost always means the base material below the driveway was not compacted well enough, or the subgrade washed away during a wet Fresno winter. The paver itself is usually fine; it’s the support that failed.
- Cracked or spalled paver surface. A paver that flakes on the top face has absorbed too much water and then baked in Valley heat. The surface delaminates; the paver becomes rough and unsightly, and the damaged piece will continue to shed material.
- Polymeric sand turning to powder. The joint sand between pavers is designed to harden and lock the field together. When it breaks down, you’ll see ant trails, weeds, and pavers that rock underfoot. In Fresno, UV exposure accelerates this breakdown faster than the manufacturers’ typical lifespan claims.
- Weeds pushing through joints. This is usually the first visible sign of failed sand joints. The weed roots themselves then widen the gaps, which lets more water in, which erodes the base, which makes the pavers move. It compounds fast once it starts.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Barrette paver or edging repair in Fresno, the installed price usually lands in these ranges:
- Single paver replacement: $350 – $800, depending on whether we’re cutting out one piece or several, and whether the base under them needs re-leveling.
- Edge restraint repair or replacement: $400 – $1,200 for a typical driveway section, including new spikes and re-bedding the outer course.
- Sectional reset (multiple pavers in a settled area): $900 – $1,800 for lifting, re-compacting the base, and re-laying the pavers with fresh sand joints.
Every repair includes the written price before any work starts, which is just how we operate. Shoe covers and drop cloths on any part of the job that touches your home, a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise on every completed repair. If it’s not done right, we make it right. The biggest cost driver is the base: if the subgrade has failed, the pavers on top will fail again no matter how carefully we set them. We’ll tell you if that’s what we’re seeing before we write the scope.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things you can safely check on your own: note where the settled spots are, look for visible gaps along the edge restraint, and pull any obvious weeds so we can see the joint condition clearly. That saves everyone time.
Where DIY goes wrong is lifting pavers without disturbing the compacted base, or rebuilding a base layer that was never right to begin with. The pavers are heavy, and getting them back to the correct grade without a plate compactor and a level on hand is a slow, back-straining chore that usually ends with a wavy surface. If the repair is at the edge of the driveway and involves cutting pavers, the angle grinder work throws dust and chips. It is not dangerous like a garage door spring, but it is finicky, and a bad reset looks worse than the original damage. Call (559) 540-8453 and we can talk through what you are seeing. If it is a simple fix, we will tell you that too.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and intact joint sand, Barrette pavers in Fresno typically last 20 to 30 years as a driveway surface, though the polymeric sand between them will likely need reconditioning every 5 to 8 years due to our UV exposure. The pavers themselves outlast the joint sand. Call (559) 540-8453 and we can look at your specific installation and tell you what to expect.
A cracked paver cannot be glued back together in a way that will survive traffic, so replacement of the individual paver is the honest fix. The good news is that a single spalled or cracked paver is usually an isolated problem, not a sign the whole driveway is failing. Call (559) 540-8453 for a free estimate on the replacement.
Most single-paver replacements and edge restraint repairs in the Fresno area are done in one day, including base re-leveling and new joint sand. A larger sectional reset may take two days if the weather delays compaction. We will put the timeline in writing before any work begins.
We keep the most common Barrette-compatible edge restraints and sand materials on the truck, and we source matching pavers from local Fresno suppliers once we confirm your thickness and color. For discontinued Barrette colors, we will bring aftermarket samples to your home so you can approve the match before we order. Call (559) 540-8453 and we will check availability while you are on the phone.
If you are in Fresno, Clovis, or nearby and need a Barrette driveway or paver part matched and set right, call (559) 540-8453 for a free estimate. Graham will write down exactly what you tell him, and the price you get is the price you pay. Write it down before anything comes off the truck.
