Cover Fence Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We install Cover-compatible fence systems throughout Fresno, with most completed projects landing between $3,500 and $9,000 depending on linear footage, gate count, post depth, and access. That’s the installed price – parts, labor, concrete, hardware, haul-away of the old fence, and a written scope before anything comes off the truck. Most Fresno homeowners discover their Cover fence panel has failed when the horizontal rail starts to separate from the post, or when a wind event has worked a panel loose and the locking channel won’t hold anymore. The panel itself may look fine. It’s the connection points that go first in our Valley heat.
One note before we go further: Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is an independent service provider. We do not manufacture Cover fencing and we are not owned by or affiliated with the Cover company. We install it, we repair it, and we know which parts fail in this climate and which ones don’t.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover builds fence systems around tongue-and-groove horizontal extrusions, and most of what we see in Fresno falls into either the standard residential series or the heavier-duty privacy series. The residential line uses a 6-inch horizontal board profile; the privacy line runs 8-inch boards with a denser core. The post sleeves are different between the two – the privacy series posts are deeper and need a different mounting channel – and swapping parts between them is where we see the compatibility mistakes happen.
How to identify what you have: look for an embossed part number on the inside edge of the bottom rail, near the post. If that label has been baked off by the sun, measure the board width. Six inches means the standard series. Eight inches means the privacy series. That single measurement tells us which locking channel, which post caps, and which tension clips your fence needs. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Cover’s factory parts are well-made, but we’ve also worked with quality aftermarket channels and caps that meet or exceed the original spec at a lower price. We’ll price both ways and let you decide. No upsell games.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing
- Rail-to-post separation. The most common call we get in Fresno. The locking channel inside the post was never seated fully at the factory, or it has deformed after years of 100-degree days. The board pulls free at one corner first, then the whole panel starts sagging. This is repairable without replacing the whole fence if caught early.
- Panel vibration and rattle. Fresno wind is not constant, but when it blows during a Delta breeze evening, a fence with worn tension clips will chatter. That’s the clip losing its grip on the rail. New clips are cheap and the fix is fast.
- Post lean without soil movement. If the post itself is creaking or leaning while the concrete base hasn’t moved, the internal post sleeve has cracked. This happens more in the direct western exposure along the 99 corridor where posts get hammered by afternoon sun. The sleeve is the structural spine of a Cover fence – once it cracks, the post loses its stiffness and the whole section needs replacement.
- Discolored or chalky board surfaces. UV degradation is normal for every fencing product in the Central Valley, but severe chalking after only two or three years suggests the panel came from an older production run. The board is still functional; it just looks tired. We can replace individual boards without touching the rest of the fence.
- Scraping sounds when opening a gate. On Cover fence installations with a gate, a misaligned hinge post will drag against the gate edge. It’s not just annoying – it wears the aluminum down. In Fresno’s dust and grit, that wear accelerates fast. A gate adjustment resolves it before it becomes a full hinge replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed replacement for Cover fence installation in Fresno runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical backyard. Where a project lands inside that range depends on four things: linear feet being installed, whether we’re replacing posts or just panels, how many gates are involved, and access – a tight side yard with no direct path from the truck takes longer, and labor reflects that.
Every quote we write includes the material cost broken out from the labor, concrete and post-setting materials if needed, hardware, disposal of the old fence, and clean-up. We give you a written price before any work starts – no estimate that grows after the crew arrives. That’s a Cedarwell Care Promise practice, and it’s standard on every Elmstead Remodeling Fresno job. All Cover fence installation work we complete carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can check yourself. If a board has simply slid out of its channel, you may be able to work it back into position with a rubber mallet. If a gate is dragging, look at the hinge post – a visible gap at the mounting point tells you the hinge has loosened, and sometimes tightening a few screws sorts it. None of that is dangerous.
What is dangerous is the post work. A failing Cover post sleeve is under constant load, and a post that has cracked internally can release suddenly when you start pulling panels off the rails. We’ve seen a homeowner catch a board to the face because the rail tension released all at once. Don’t do post work yourself. That’s a call to us. Graham Stein has been doing this kind of work long enough to know exactly when a fence section is going to fight back – and we’d rather you call (559) 540-8453 before you find out the hard way. FAQs

A properly installed Cover fence in Fresno lasts 20 to 25 years, with post sleeves and locking channels being the first components to wear, usually around the 12-to-15-year mark. The board panels themselves hold up longer than the connection hardware, so the fence’s real lifespan is set by how well the posts and channels are maintained. Call (559) 540-8453 if you’re seeing early wear – we can tell you what’s fixable and what isn’t.
Yes, in many cases – a rail separation or loose tension clip is a repair job, not a replacement job. When the post sleeve has cracked or the post has lost structural stiffness, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll always tell you which one you actually need, because the written quote says exactly what we’ll do and nothing more. Get your exact scope by calling (559) 540-8453.
Most Cover fence installations in Fresno take two to four working days, depending on the number of posts and how many gates are involved. A single-section rail or clip repair is often done in an afternoon. We’ll give you the timeline in writing before anything starts, and Graham keeps a project calendar he actually updates – if something shifts, you’ll know.
We keep common Cover-compatible components on the truck – locking channels, tension clips, post caps, and gate hinges – so we can finish most repairs in one visit. For custom or less common parts, we order them and handle the compatibility check for you. You never need to guess a part number. Call (559) 540-8453 and tell us what your fence is doing; we’ll bring the right pieces.
