Techo-Bloc Kitchen Remodeling: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
Most Fresno kitchens with Techo-Bloc elements that need remodeling fall into a full kitchen remodel range of $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on whether we’re working around existing Techo-Bloc hardscape, integrating new Techo-Bloc pavers or wall units, or rebuilding surfaces around them. The work typically takes three to six weeks once materials are on site. What brings most homeowners to us is a kitchen where a Techo-Bloc feature, such as an outdoor-adjacent kitchen wall or a paver transition from the kitchen to a patio, has shifted, cracked, or failed because of Fresno’s clay soil movement and summer heat. Water follows those cracks, and before long the problem is inside the house, not just at the threshold. The good news is that Techo-Bloc components are modular by design, so we can often replace a section rather than tear out the whole run.
Here’s what we know after years of working with Techo-Bloc products in the Central Valley: the stone itself rarely fails. What fails first is the base beneath it, or the jointing material between units, or the transition where pavers meet a kitchen wall. A kitchen remodel that touches Techo-Bloc usually means we’re solving a movement problem, not replacing stone that wore out.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc manufactures paver and wall systems under distinct product lines, and the right approach depends on which one is around your kitchen. The Blu 60 and Blu 80 paver lines show up often in Fresno kitchens that open to covered patios or outdoor cooking areas. The Semma and Mista wall units are common in raised kitchen bars and step transitions. Raffinato and Travertina Raw slabs are used for wider living spaces connected to kitchens. If you have the original invoice or techo-bloc paperwork, look for a product code that starts with the series name. If not, we measure the paver thickness and face dimensions on site to match it. A Blu 60, for instance, runs 60mm thick, while an Industria paver runs 80mm and will not sit flush in a Blu 60 bed without additional base adjustment.
One compatibility gotcha we see in Fresno’s newer subdivisions: builders sometimes spec a paver from one Techo-Bloc series for the kitchen threshold and a different series for the back patio, assuming they’ll read as the same color. They don’t. Under afternoon sun, the tint difference becomes obvious. We carry color-matched Techo-Bloc from the distributor in Fresno and can usually pull a match within a week. If you’re open to it, an aftermarket paver from a different manufacturer can save money, but the joint tolerances and color fastness vary more, and we’ve had better long-term results staying with Techo-Bloc when the rest of the hardscape is already Techo-Bloc. Independent note: Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is not a Techo-Bloc dealer or affiliate. We buy from local supply houses like any contractor and pass the pricing through at cost.

What’s Included in a Techo-Bloc Kitchen Remodel in Fresno
Every Techo-Bloc kitchen remodeling project we take on starts with a written price before any work begins. No allowances that balloon after demo day. No “we’ll see what we find” pricing. Graham Stein writes the scope down before anything comes off the truck, and that scope is what the price is built from. If we find something hidden once the old kitchen is open, you see the change in writing and approve it before we proceed.
Drop cloths go down on the floors before any of the old kitchen comes out, and shoe covers go on at the door every single visit. If children are in the house, we schedule loud cutting for hours that work around naps and homework when we can. If there are pets, we ask where they’ll be during the work so nobody gets stepped on or escapes through an open door. The crew takes a photo of the clean-up before they leave each day, and we send it to you so you never have to wonder what the house looks like while you’re gone.
Here’s what a typical Fresno Techo-Bloc kitchen remodel includes, in order:
- Protection and prep: Floor coverings, dust barriers, and appliance covers installed before demolition starts.
- Demolition and disposal: Old cabinets, counters, and flooring removed carefully, with debris hauled away by us, not left in your driveway for a week.
- Base correction and surface prep: If Techo-Bloc hardscape is adjacent to the kitchen, we repair or replace the base material beneath it before it becomes the reason your new floor cracks in two years.
- Cabinet installation: KraftMaid or Wellborn cabinets, depending on the style and budget we agree on. These are cabinets with manufacturer warranties you or any future owner can verify.
- Countertop installation: Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone surfaces, measured and templated after cabinets are set, not before.
- Backsplash, fixtures, flooring: Tile, Schluter waterproofing where needed, and fixtures from Kohler, Moen, or Grohe, all priced line-by-line before we start.
- Techo-Bloc feature work: Wall caps, thresholds, and paver aprons matched to the existing series and joint pattern.
- Final clean-up and walkthrough: A photo of the clean-up before we leave, a walkthrough with Graham or the project lead, and a written list of anything still open.
Price ranges for the most common kitchen remodel scopes in Fresno:
- Full kitchen remodel: $14,000 – $45,000
- Small kitchen remodel: $9,000 – $20,000
- Cabinet installation only: $4,000 – $13,000
- Countertop installation only: $2,000 – $6,500
- Backsplash only: $800 – $2,500
- Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000
Notice these are ranges, not quotes. The two biggest variables in Fresno are the condition of your subfloor and whether existing hardscape has to be addressed before we set the first cabinet. That said, once we give you a written price, it does not grow because the crew arrived and “discovered” something. If we find something real, you’ll see it in writing with a price and you decide.
Signs Your Techo-Bloc-Kitchen Transition Is Failing
The kitchen itself doesn’t fail the way a pump or an appliance fails. What fails is the seam where the kitchen meets hardscape, or the base beneath it, or the surface you prep food on. Here are the five signs we see most often in Fresno kitchens, with the underlying cause for each.
- Cracks running through a Techo-Bloc threshold or apron at the kitchen door: Usually from clay soil expanding after winter rain and contracting through summer dry spells. The paver isn’t broken; the base beneath it moved. Patching the crack alone won’t hold.
- Pavers sinking or tilting near the kitchen entrance: Water from the kitchen’s exterior wall, a hose bib, or a downspout has washed fine material out of the base. The pavers settle unevenly and become a trip hazard right where people carry groceries in.
- Floor tile inside the kitchen cracking in a straight line toward the exterior door: The concrete slab under the tile has shifted because of the same soil movement that moved the pavers outside. This is a subfloor problem, not a tile problem.
- Gaps opening between Techo-Bloc wall units and the kitchen wall or counter: The wall block and the house are moving at different rates. Left alone, water gets in and rots the sill plate.
- Algae or dark staining on Techo-Bloc surfaces adjacent to the kitchen: Fresno’s sprinkler overspray plus shade from the house creates a persistent damp spot that the sun never fully dries. It looks like a cleaning issue, but if it keeps coming back, the drainage pitch is wrong.

AfterTecho-Bloc Kitchen Remodeling Cost & What’s Included
In Fresno, a full kitchen remodel with Techo-Bloc integration on an adjacent surface runs from $14,000 to $45,000. A smaller kitchen, or a kitchen where we’re only addressing the Techo-Bloc threshold and the flooring nearest the door, lands closer to $9,000 to $20,000. The spread comes down to three things: the condition of the base beneath the hardscape, how much cabinetry and countertop you’re replacing, and whether the kitchen slab needs leveling before new flooring goes down. Every quote we write separates materials and labor line by line, so you can see exactly what the Techo-Bloc portion costs versus the cabinet portion versus the countertop portion.
Every project is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right. That means if a Techo-Bloc paver we reset sinks six months after we finish, we come back and fix the base. Not a fight, not a call-tag system, just a correction. The materials themselves carry their own manufacturer warranties, and those travel with the house even if you sell.
DIY or Call Us?
A single paver you can lift with a pry bar and reset with a bag of sand is a Saturday project, and you don’t need us for it. What you should not do yourself is try to correct a base failure, because that means removing pavers down to the damaged layer, checking the drainage path, and recompacting in lifts so the surface doesn’t settle again. Do it wrong and the same crack returns in eighteen months after a wet winter. If the issue is at the kitchen wall or the threshold where water can enter the house, that’s a water intrusion problem more than a paver problem. Water in a Fresno summer dries fast, but the damage it does to a wall cavity does not undo itself. If your kitchen remodel touches any of that, call us at (559) 540-8453 and we’ll walk you through what we’re seeing. The estimate is free, and it comes in writing.
FAQs
With a correctly compacted base and proper drainage, Techo-Bloc pavers in the Fresno climate typically last 25 years or longer before the surface shows real wear. What shortens that timeline is water undermining the base from sprinkler overspray, downspouts, or poor pitch. If we can fix the drainage, the pavers usually stay put. Call (559) 540-8453 and we’ll look at the whole drainage picture, not just the pavers.
In most cases, yes. Techo-Bloc’s modular design means we can pull the damaged units, correct the base beneath them, and put the same pavers back. The exception is when a color has been discontinued and a broken paver can’t be matched invisibly, in which case we’ll show you the closest current option before any work proceeds.
If we’re only repairing or resetting the Techo-Bloc transition and the adjacent flooring, it’s usually a three-to-five-day job. A full kitchen remodel that includes Techo-Bloc work on an attached outdoor surface typically runs three to six weeks, with the hardscape portion scheduled around the weather so the base gets compacted before any rain or extreme heat hits it.
We don’t warehouse pavers on-site, but we have a direct line to the Fresno Techo-Bloc distributor and can usually have specific series and colors in hand within five to seven business days. If we know the series during the estimate, we’ll have the pavers staged before any of your kitchen comes apart. Call (559) 540-8453 for a free estimate, and we’ll confirm availability before you commit to anything.
