Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Belgard-compatible driveway pavers and paver replacement pieces throughout Fresno, with most driveway paver replacements running between $7,000 and $18,000 installed, and smaller paver repair or re-setting jobs falling into the $800 to $3,500 range depending on square footage and access. The fastest way to describe what we see most often: a homeowner notices a section of pavers has settled into a low spot after rain, or a single pavers has cracked under a car tire, and the question becomes whether you replace the piece or re-level the whole area. We keep common Belgard paver profiles and edge restraints on our Fresno trucks, so a lot of these issues get matched and fixed without a second trip.
Belgard pavers fail differently in Fresno than they do in coastal or cooler climates. Our summer heat and clay-heavy soil mean the base underneath moves more than the pavers themselves. The pavers rarely wear out. The sand and base below them do. When you see one paver sinking while its neighbors stay put, you’re almost always looking at a base compaction issue, not a paver defect. That distinction drives the entire pricing conversation, and we’ll walk through it below.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes their paver lines in a few families, and the right replacement part depends entirely on which family your driveway was built with. The most common in Fresno driveways are the Cambridge Cobble, Holland Stone, Mega-Arbel, and Urbana series. Each has different dimensions, so a Cambridge Cobble paver will not seat correctly next to a Holland Stone, even if the color looks close. Cambridge Cobble runs 6 1/4″ x 9 7/16″ x 2 3/8″ in most applications. Holland Stone is smaller at 4 1/8″ x 7 7/8″ x 2 3/8″. You can check the back of a loose paver for a mold number cast into the bottom, or measure the top face with a tape measure, and that will usually settle it.
There’s an OEM-versus-aftermarket discussion worth having here. Belgard manufactures their own pavers, and for color consistency, nothing beats pulling a replacement piece from the same factory batch or at minimum the same color code. Quality aftermarket equivalents from manufacturers like Pavestone or Angelus Block can work for full replacements where color matching matters less, but you give up the guarantee that the surface texture and fade behavior will match. Belgard pavers use a color-through or face-mix process depending on the line, and with face-mix products, the color sits in the top layer. An aftermarket piece that starts as a slightly different base color will show that difference within two Fresno summers of UV exposure. We’ll tell you honestly when a match is close enough, and when it isn’t.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots or birdbaths in the paver surface. Water pools after rain and doesn’t drain for a day or more. This means the base material under that section has eroded or settled, and the pavers have followed it down. In Fresno’s clay-heavy soil, winter moisture and summer drying cycles compact the base unevenly, which is why some sections sink while others hold.
- Cracks running through individual pavers. A single cracked paver in a driveway usually points to a point-load problem: a car tire repeatedly hitting the same spot, often near a garage apron or turnaround. Belgard pavers are rated for residential vehicle loads when installed over a properly prepared base, so a crack pattern repeated across several pavers usually means the base below has failed and the pavers are bridging a void.
- Edge pavers shifting outward or separating from the border. This is an edge restraint failure. Belgard installations rely on a plastic or concrete edge restraint spiked into the base to hold the field pavers in place. When that restraint loosens or the spikes pull out, the outermost row starts to drift, and then the rows behind it loosen up too.
- Sand washing out between the joints. If you see joint sand disappearing after every rain or collecting at the low end of the driveway, the interlock between pavers is weakening. Once the joints go empty, the pavers lose lateral support and start shifting under load. This is a repair that’s cheap if addressed early and expensive if ignored for a year.
- Paver surface flaking or pitting. A face-mix paver that was originally installed with a different production run may start to delaminate as the surface layer separates from the body. This shows up as shallow pockmarks or a rough, sandy surface. It’s a product consistency problem more than a structural one, but it still means replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Belgard paver driveway replacement in Fresno runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on the square footage, paver series, and what we find under the existing surface. A smaller repair, where we pull 30 to 100 square feet of pavers, re-compact the base, and re-set the pieces, typically lands between $800 and $3,500. Partial re-leveling of a settled section falls inside that same repair range.
What drives the spread on full replacements is mostly base work. If the original installation skimped on the gravel base, the ground underneath needs more excavation and new aggregate before pavers go down. If the base is solid and you’re refreshing the surface and joint sand, the lower end of the range applies. Every job includes the written price before any work starts, the pavers and base materials, the joint sand, edge restraints, haul-off of old material, and a final compaction pass. We’ll put the line item for each of those on the written quote, so you’ll know what you’re paying for before anything comes off the truck.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the extent of the problem without touching a thing: mark the low spots with chalk after a rain, measure how far a paver has sunk using a straight 2×4 laid across adjacent pavers, and take photos before and after a heavy rain to track whether the settling is getting worse. Clearing leaves and debris out of the joints so water drains is also fine. What isn’t a safe or worthwhile DIY project is pulling and re-setting more than a few pavers. A paver driveway is a system: the pavers, the bedding sand, the base, and the edge restraints all have to work together, and pulling up a section without a plate compactor and clean aggregate usually leaves you with a wavier surface than you started with. That’s not a knock on your skills, it’s the difference between a driveway that lasts ten more years and one that needs re-leveling again in eighteen months. If you’re looking at more than a few shifted pavers, call us at (559) 540-8453 and we’ll tell you what the repair actually needs.
FAQs

A properly installed Belgard paver driveway in Fresno typically lasts 25 to 40 years, with the pavers themselves often outlasting two or three joint sand refreshes and at least one base re-leveling during that span. The variable is the base and the soil under it, not the paver.
Yes, many Belgard driveway problems in Fresno are repairable when they’re caught early, especially joint sand loss, isolated low spots, and edge restraint failure. A repair runs $800 to $3,500, and we’ll tell you if the base has degraded to the point where repair would just delay a larger failure. Call (559) 540-8453 for an honest read.
A small repair, meaning under 100 square feet of re-leveling or paver replacement, is typically done in one to two days. A full driveway replacement in Fresno usually takes three to seven days depending on the size and how much base work is required.
We keep common Belgard profiles like Cambridge Cobble and Holland Stone, along with edge restraints and joint sand, on our Fresno trucks for repair-sized jobs. Full driveway replacements are ordered in the specific color and series you need, which keeps the color consistent across the whole surface.
If your Belgard driveway is settling, cracked, or losing its joint sand, call us at (559) 540-8453.
