Belgard Fence Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

Belgard fence installation in Fresno typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full project, with most homeowners landing between $4,500 and $6,500 for a standard residential run. We stock Belgard-compatible post systems, cap stones, and structural components on our trucks, which means we can often match an existing Belgard wall or fence line same-week, not same-month. The way most Fresno owners discover a problem is simple: a post shifts after a wet winter, a cap stone cracks loose, or the sand-joint mortar between courses starts crumbling out and the wall begins to lean toward the sidewalk.

Belgard makes a lot of different products, and “fence installation” here is really about the structural system underneath: the posts, the footings, the bond beam, the cap. The block itself rarely fails. What fails is what holds it together. That is the part this page is about.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

When a Fresno homeowner calls us about a Belgard fence, they are usually working with one of three product lines: the Belgard Weston Stone wall system, the Belgard Dublin Cobble or Holland Stone for shorter garden walls, or a freestanding Belgard pillar-and-panel configuration where masonry columns frame fence panels. Each one uses a different post or core system, and the part that matches one will not necessarily match the other.

The compatibility gotcha most people hit: Belgard column caps and post caps are sized to the finished column dimension, not the block’s nominal size. A “16-inch” cap fits a column that measures 16 inches across after the veneer and mortar are applied. If you measure the raw block before the face stone goes on, you will order the wrong cap. We have seen that exact mistake more than a few times in the Tower District and up in Woodward Park.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Belgard caps and bond-beam blocks are worth buying as genuine Belgard when the wall is visible from the street, because the color blend and texture are cast in a specific way and aftermarket caps rarely match a weathered original. For structural components you never see (post cores, rebar, concrete footings, drainage gravel), quality aftermarket material from a Fresno supplier is just as good and usually costs less. We will tell you which is which before you spend a dollar. Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Belgard, but we install and repair their systems regularly, and we also work with named-brand materials across our other projects: KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, to name a few.

Signs Your Belgard Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The wall leans visibly, even a few degrees. This almost always means the footing has settled or the post core was never tied correctly. Fresno’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and a footing poured too shallow will heave within two or three seasons.
  • Sand-joint mortar is falling out in chunks. Belgard walls built without proper drainage behind them trap water. In a Fresno summer, that water turns to vapor pressure; in winter it swells the joints. Crumbling joints are the first sign the wall needs more than a repoint.
  • Cap stones have shifted or cracked. Caps take the brunt of sun and thermal cycling. A hairline crack is cosmetic. A cap that has moved more than a quarter inch means the bond beam below it has failed, and that is structural.
  • You see a horizontal crack running along one course. This is the bond beam failing, usually because rebar was not laid continuously through the wall. Once a horizontal crack opens, the wall can separate along that line without much warning.
  • The fence gate drags or will not latch. A gate that rubs against the post or swings open on its own tells you the post has moved. Gate posts carry more load than any other part of the fence, and when they shift, the problem only gets worse.

Graham Stein has been reading these walls for a long time. He grew up in Los Angeles and picked up his first framing hammer at a job site in the San Fernando Valley before studying construction technology at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. The lesson that stuck: write it down before anything comes off the truck. We still do that on every Fresno job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

A full Belgard fence installation in Fresno runs $3,500 – $9,000, and here is what moves the number.

  • Linear footage. The single biggest driver. A 30-foot run is a different project than a 120-foot run, and both are common in Fresno yards.
  • Footing condition. If the existing footings are sound, we can rebuild on top of them. If they are cracked or too shallow, we dig new ones, which adds labor and time.
  • Access. A fence line against a neighbor’s yard or behind a tight side gate means hand-carrying material instead of wheeling it. That is real labor, and we price it honestly rather than burying it in a surprise line item.
  • Cap and finish. Reusing original Belgard caps saves a few hundred dollars. New caps, especially on a long run, add a few hundred more.

Every quote is a written price before any work starts. No estimate that grows after the crew arrives. The price includes demolition and haul-away of the failed section, new footing work where needed, the Belgard block and structural components, and a clean job site. You get shoe covers and drop cloths inside the house if the fence work connects to a patio or walkway, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things an owner can safely check. You can look at the cap stones and see if they have shifted. You can run a level along the face of the wall. You can watch the gate for a week and note where it drags.

What you should not do is start pulling caps and digging out footings on a wall that is already leaning. A Belgard wall section, even a short one, is heavy. A leaning wall can drop faster than you expect, and a falling column will do serious damage to whoever is standing next to it. If the wall has moved more than an inch, or if there is a horizontal crack, leave it alone and call us. We will come out, look at it, and give you a written plan. Call (559) 540-8453.
