Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
Bufftech driveway and paver products are built to handle the Central Valley, but even a well-made paver system can fail at the edges, the base, or the jointing. In Fresno, we regularly see Bufftech paver driveways that have held up for 12 to 18 years before needing real attention, and the most common failure point is almost never the paver itself. It’s the sand, the edge restraint, or a low spot where water has been pooling through a wet winter. If you’re noticing shifting, sinking, weeds pushing through joints, or pavers that have cracked along the driveway edge, this page will walk you through what failed, what it costs to fix in Fresno, and whether you can handle it yourself or should call us at (559) 540-8453.
Typical installed repair pricing for Bufftech driveway and paver work in Fresno runs $400 to $3,500 depending on the scope, with a full paver driveway installation landing between $7,000 and $18,000. We keep polymer sand, edge restraint, and replacement Bufftech-compatible pavers on hand for most mid-run repairs, and we give you a written price before any work starts. Always.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech produces pavers across several product families, and the naming convention matters more than most homeowners realize. You’ll see lines like the Bufftech Estate Paver, the Bufftech Ashlar, the Bufftech Plank Paver, and the Bufftech Coventry collection, among others. Each line has its own thickness spec, joint width, and color blend, and mixing a paver from one Bufftech line into a driveway built from another will show, even if the color looks close on the sample board. We’ve had Fresno homeowners bring us a single cracked paver from a big-box store only to find it’s a 60mm paver going into a 80mm driveway system. That height difference is enough to create a trip edge and a new low spot.
The single most useful thing you can do before calling us is flip over one of your existing pavers or check the original paperwork. Bufftech stamps a product code on the back of most pavers or on the pallet wrap, and that code tells us the thickness, the color blend, and the texture finish. If you don’t have the code, we can match by measuring the paver thickness in millimeters and photographing the surface under direct sun. Fresno’s hard water and summer UV do fade some Bufftech color blends, so a new paver will often look slightly brighter than one that’s been in a driveway for a decade. We account for that in how we blend repair pavers from the less-trafficked edges of your own driveway before we ever order new stock.
We also stock parts and replacement materials for other named brands on our jobs, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if your project involves a mix of materials you’re not juggling multiple supply chains.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers sinking in the wheel tracks. This is the classic Fresno failure, and it usually means the base material has settled or washed out underneath the paver surface. Our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with irrigation water and winter rain, and wheel traffic pressing on a poorly compacted base will eventually push those pavers down into the subgrade.
- Weeds or ants pushing up through the joints. Joint sand doesn’t last forever, especially with Fresno’s dry summers. Once the sand breaks down or washes out, the joints become seed beds. Ants excavate the sand from below, and you’ll see small piles of sand at the paver edges that let you know the base is being hollowed out.
- Edge pavers separating from the driveway. The plastic or aluminum edge restraint is what holds the whole field tight. When it fails, usually because it was staked too shallow or a car tire has caught the edge, the outside pavers start to drift. Left alone, that drift works inward and you’ll get a widening gap that turns into a broken corner.
- Hairline cracks across paver corners. A cracked corner rather than a clean split usually means the paver is rocking on an uneven base or someone drove a heavy vehicle onto an edge that had no support. It’s not the paver’s fault. The base below it has a low void.
- Standing water that didn’t use to pool. Driveways shift slowly, and a low spot that holds water after a Fresno rain storm means the base has settled in one area. That water then works down through the joints, weakens the subgrade further, and accelerates the problem every winter.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Bufftech driveway and paver repair in Fresno, small spot repairs, edge restraint replacement, or joint sand reapplication typically run $400 to $1,200. A larger section of sunken or shifted pavers, where we pull up the affected area, re-grade and re-compact the base, and relay the pavers, runs $1,500 to $3,500. A full paver driveway installation runs $7,000 to $18,000, with the spread driven by square footage, access, how much base correction is needed, and whether you’re adding a border or inlay pattern. We write the price down before any work starts, and that price doesn’t change once the crew arrives. No change orders on scope we can see and measure. If we open up the base and find something hidden, we stop, show you what we found, and write a new line-item price before we touch it.
Every repair includes polymer joint sand, edge restraint where needed, base compaction with a plate compactor, and a photo of the finished clean-up before we leave. All of it covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair settles or the joint sand fails within a year, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely re-sand joints yourself. Buy a bag of polymer sand, sweep it into the joints, mist it with water per the bag instructions, and you’ve bought yourself a season or two. You can also pull a single cracked paver and replace it if the base underneath is still solid and flat. What you should not do yourself is pull up a sunken section and re-compact the base without a plate compactor. Hand tamping in Fresno clay does not reach the density a driveway needs, and the repair will fail again within a year. Same goes for edge restraint: if the edge has failed, the whole restraint line needs to be checked, not just patched where it’s visible.
If you’re unsure whether the base has failed or just the sand, call (559) 540-8453. We’ll take a look, give you a written price, and tell you honestly if it’s a repair we think you can handle yourself. Write it down before anything comes off the truck.
FAQs

Most Bufftech paver driveways in Fresno last 15 to 25 years for the pavers themselves, but the joint sand and edge restraint typically need attention every 5 to 8 years, and the base may need correction once or twice over the life of the driveway. Climate matters here: Fresno’s hot, dry summers break down joint sand faster than coastal climates, and our winter rains find every low spot. Call (559) 540-8453 and we’ll give you a straight answer about what your specific driveway needs.
Hairline cracks through the body of a paver mean it needs replacement. Surface chips can sometimes be left alone or flipped if the bottom is unbroken, but a crack through the paver means water will get in and widen it. The good news is a single paver replacement is a small, precise job even in the middle of a driveway. We match the Bufftech code and the finish, and we quote the paver and the labor separately so you see exactly what you’re paying for.
Most spot repairs, single paver replacements, and joint re-sanding jobs take one visit of 2 to 4 hours, with the caveat that polymer sand needs dry weather to set. A larger sunken-section repair with base re-compaction usually takes one full day, plus a day of settling before you drive on it. We’ll tell you the day, the start window, and when you can put cars back on the driveway before we start, in writing.
We carry a range of common Bufftech replacement pavers and matching joint sand in our Fresno shop, and for less common colors or newer lines, we order directly from our supplier and schedule the repair for the week the material arrives. We will never start a repair with the wrong paver and hope you don’t notice the difference. We match the product code or the thickness and color under natural light before we quote anything.
If your Bufftech driveway or paver system has a problem, call (559) 540-8453 for a free estimate. We’ll look at it, write the price down, and leave the property cleaner than we found it. That’s the deal on every job, every time.
