Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you have a Toto toilet, bidet seat, or lavatory that has failed or is failing, we can replace it and handle the surrounding remodel work in Fresno, typically for $9,000 – $28,000 depending on scope. We stock common Toto-compatible parts, install OEM Toto components when the job calls for them, and can usually diagnose the issue in a single visit. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a fill valve that won’t stop running, a Washlet seat that throws an error code and won’t heat, or a skirted toilet that has developed a slow leak at the floor that never quite dries.
Elmstead Remodeling Fresno is an independent remodeling contractor serving Fresno and nearby areas. We are not affiliated with Toto, but we work with Toto products every week, and we know which parts fail first and which replacement parts actually hold up in Fresno’s hard water.
Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto makes a wide range of fixtures, and the right part depends on exactly which line you have. For toilets, the big split is between skirted models (the Aquia, Nexus, and Legato lines) and conventional exposed-trapway models (the Drake, Ultramax, and Entrada lines). Skirted toilets hide the trapway behind a smooth porcelain skirt, which looks clean but makes the fill valve and flapper harder to reach, and the skirt also means you need Toto-specific mounting hardware when the toilet is pulled and reset during a remodel.
For Toto Washlet bidet seats, the compatibility question hinges on whether you have a dedicated Washlet toilet (the seat bolts directly to the bowl with a concealed connection) or an add-on Washlet mounted to a standard Toto bowl. We have seen Fresno homeowners buy an aftermarket seat on sale, only to find the mounting bracket does not match their bowl’s bolt spacing. Toto uses a 5.5-inch bolt spread on many of its modern bowls, which is not universal. Before any part is ordered, we pull the model number off the inside of the tank lid or the underside of the seat and confirm the match against Toto’s current spec sheets.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for fill valves and flappers, quality aftermarket equivalents from Korky (which actually manufactures Toto’s OEM fill valves) perform identically and cost less. For Washlet control boards, remote controls, and wand assemblies, we recommend OEM Toto parts every time. The aftermarket electronics rarely last past a year, and the warranty is often nonexistent.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Constant running or ghost-flushing. The fill valve is no longer sealing completely, so water trickles into the bowl and the valve cycles on and off at random. In Fresno, hard water mineral buildup on the valve seat accelerates this failure.
- The Washlet seat won’t heat, or throws an error code. This usually points to a failed heating element or a control board issue. Toto error codes are printed on the side of the seat, and we can match the code to the specific repair before ordering anything.
- Water seeping at the base of a skirted toilet. This is often a failed wax ring or a hairline crack in the skirt. It is easy to misdiagnose, and pulling a skirted Toto requires the right adapter plate, so this is not a job to guess at.
- Weak or incomplete flush that gets worse over time. On the Drake and Ultramax lines, this typically means the flapper is warped or the rim jets are clogged with mineral scale. On newer Tornado Flush models, a drop in flush power usually means the internal rim channel needs descaling or a component has worn.
- Bowl movement or rocking. If the toilet rocks, the flange is failing, the subfloor may be soft, or the mounting bolts were never set correctly on a skirted model. Left alone, this can crack the porcelain or damage the floor, which turns a simple part replacement into a larger remodel.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, a focused Toto part replacement (fill valve, flapper, or basic Washlet repair) typically runs from $300 – $900 installed, and we carry some of these parts on the truck. When the failure means pulling the toilet, replacing the flange, or repairing subfloor, and the homeowner also wants to update tile, vanity, or shower surfaces at the same time, the work becomes a full bathroom remodel. That range is $9,000 – $28,000, which is the same range we quote for complete bathroom remodels in Fresno.
What drives the price inside that range: whether we are working with existing plumbing locations or moving supply lines and drains; whether tile is being replaced or kept; and which fixtures the homeowner chooses. A Toto Drake installed on an existing flange costs far less than a full remodel with a skirted Aquia, new tile floor, and a curbless shower.
Every job starts with a written price before any work begins. We do not give verbal ballparks that change after the crew arrives. We write the scope down, we price it, and we hand it to you. If something changes mid-job, we stop and explain it in writing before any additional work happens. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every completed project: if it is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
A fill valve or flapper on a conventional Toto Drake is a reasonable DIY job for someone who is comfortable shutting off the water and working in a tight space. Even then, Fresno’s hard water can make old plastic components brittle, and it is easy to crack a fill valve shank by over-tightening it. We are happy to walk you through whether it is worth doing yourself, and we will tell you honestly if it is not.
A skirted Toto is a different story. Pulling a skirted toilet without the correct Toto adapter plate can crack the skirt, and a cracked skirt means a new toilet, not a new wax ring. The same goes for Washlet electronics: if you open the seat housing without the right tools, you can damage the water-tight seal and void Toto’s warranty. Water damage from a slow toilet leak is also the most expensive thing a homeowner can ignore, because it moves into the subfloor and joists before you see it on the ceiling below.
If you are not sure, call (559) 540-8453 and describe the symptom. We will tell you over the phone whether it is likely a simple part or something that needs a visit, and we will not schedule a service call unless you want one.
FAQs

A well-maintained Toto toilet can last 15 – 20 years, though Fresno’s hard water typically shortens fill valve and flapper life to 3 – 5 years. Washlet seats average 7 – 10 years before the heating element or control board fails. The porcelain bowl itself rarely fails unless it is cracked by impact or improper installation. Call (559) 540-8453 if you want us to assess which part of your Toto is wearing out and what it will cost to replace.
Fill valves, flappers, and flush mechanisms are almost always replaced rather than repaired because the parts are inexpensive and rebuilding them does not last. Washlet seats can sometimes be repaired by replacing the specific failed component, but only if the part is still available from Toto and the seat housing is intact. We will tell you honestly which option makes sense before you spend anything.
A simple fill valve or flapper swap takes 30 – 45 minutes once we are in the home. A Washlet control board or heating element replacement usually takes an hour. Pulling and resetting a Toto toilet with a new wax ring and flange typically takes 2 – 3 hours. A full Toto-centered bathroom remodel in Fresno runs 2 – 5 weeks depending on tile, permitting, and whether we are moving plumbing. We keep a project calendar that we actually update, and Graham Stein checks it every morning.
We stock common Toto fill valves, flappers, and mounting hardware on the truck, along with Korky equivalents that match Toto’s OEM specs. For Washlet-specific electronics, we order the exact part after confirming your model number, and those parts typically arrive within 2 – 4 business days. We also stock parts and materials for the brands we use in the surrounding remodel: KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, plus fixtures from Kohler, Moen, and Grohe.
If your Toto fixture is failing and you live in Fresno, call (559) 540-8453. We will write down exactly what you are seeing, give you a written price before any work starts, and leave your home with the floors covered, the work area cleaned, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. Write it down before anything comes off the truck.
